The Texas Division of Workers’ Compensation (DWC) has announced that Double R Brand Foods LLC has been awarded the Lone Star Safety Award for its meat processing plant located in Lufkin, Texas. This recognition highlights the company’s exceptional commitment to workplace safety and health.
Double R Brand Foods’ manufacturing facility, which employs 233 workers in the production of handcrafted, smoked meats, has demonstrated outstanding dedication to maintaining a safe work environment. The company’s award is further underscored by its recent designation as a Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) recipient from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) in February 2025.
“Double R Brand Foods has shown a remarkable commitment to fostering a culture of safety in their workplace,” said Chris D’Amura, DWC’s workplace safety director. “Their success in achieving both the Lone Star Safety Award and SHARP recognition sets a high standard for workplace safety in the food manufacturing sector.”
Double R Brand Foods has partnered with DWC’s Occupational Safety and Health Consultation Program (OSHCON) since 2020, utilizing the program’s free on-site consultation services to enhance their safety practices. OSHCON is a no-cost program that helps Texas employers understand and comply with OSHA standards through confidential assistance conducted by professional safety consultants.
As a recipient of the Lone Star Award, Double R Brand Foods may be invited to share its best practices at industry events, mentor other organizations, participate in safety and health panels, such as those at the Texas Workers’ Compensation Conference on September 29-30 at the Embassy Suites in San Marcos.
